60 Seconds That Shaped The Blues

60 Seconds That Shaped The Blues

Written by G2 founder and owner Jules Gammond, this new official Chelsea FC hardback 60 Seconds That Shaped The Blues is exclusively available through this web-site at the discounted price of £7.99 (RRP £10).

The fully illustrated publication highlights 60 key moments that have shaped the history of the club from the day that it was founded in the Rising Sun Public House in 1905 to the victory over Manchester City in this year’s Champions League Final.

Many of the magical moments are from the past couple of decades under the ownership of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich during which time the Blues have won two Champions Leagues, five Premierships, five FA Cups, three League Cups, two Europa Leagues and the World Club Championship in February 2022.

Not that they were entirely unsuccessful before, as the Stamford Bridge trophy cabinet already included a first league title, three more FA Cups and two Cup Winners’ Cups.

Chelsea FC Women have been no less prolific, winning five league titles, two FA Cups and two League Cups.

But this book is not exclusively about triumphs, it recalls those important milestones in Chelsea Football Club’s life story, the year it was founded, the chairmen and managers who made an indelible mark over the years, the record scores and classic games, the goal scorers and legends, that have each contributed to the rich tapestry that is Chelsea FC.

Comments Gammond: ” Having been a supporter for more than 50 years, I have been privileged to have witnessed many of the highs and lows first hand, including that soggy night in Moscow when, but for a slip by captain John Terry in the penalty shoot-out, we would have won three Champions League trophies by now. And while our fans sing about being ‘carefree’ it is because we care so deeply that this collection of magical moments will bring a tear to the eye and lump to the throat of all true Blues ‘wherever you may be’.”

New photography ebook helps to save lions from extinction

New photography ebook helps to save lions from extinction

Acclaimed wildlife photographer George Logan has launched a new ebook of stunning wildlife photography to support and raise awareness for Africa’s dwindling’s lion population.  The fully illustrated book, entitled ‘Lion: Pride Before The Fall’, contains a collection of the London-based photographer’s beautiful and thought-provoking images of lions in the wild in Africa. The photographs, which celebrate the lifecycle of the lion in all of its raw beauty, serve as a stark reminder of what we stand to lose – with fewer than 20,000 African lions left, time is running out to safeguard their future.

George and The Born Free Foundation raised the money to publish the book through a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign which totalled £78,000 to fund the print run, production costs and distribution. The foreword to the book was written by Born Free founder and actress, Virginia McKenna OBE. She said: “No one, in my view, more strikingly has caught the multiple dimensions of lions’ behaviour and depth of character than George Logan. He has an unfailing sensitivity and admiration for the individual animal. This, for me, shines through each page of the book and is deeply moving in so many ways.”

George Logan said: “This work, the culmination of over 10 years following and photographing Africa’s lion prides, brings their dramatic narrative to life. It’s difficult to articulate the depths of what we stand to lose, but I hope that through this book, the lions will help tell that story. All profits from this book will raise vital funds to support, protect and help re-establish the *Last Lions of Meru, a major conservation initiative in Kenya, which works to protect and increase the lion population there, which currently stands at just 60-80 lions. Uniquely for a wildlife book, we’ve collaborated with some of the best creative minds at London’s top agencies to produce powerful imagery which confronts and highlights the dangers that the last remaining lions still face, such as habitat-loss, canned hunting, trophy hunting, human-wildlife conflict and the real possibility of extinction. These images will spearhead campaigns to raise awareness and accompany the book launch.”

The digital edition, priced at £9.99, will be available through Amazon Kindle and other worldwide platforms from October 31.

25 Years of Rugby Memories

25 Years of Rugby Memories

G2 is distributing a special anniversary edition of the Wooden Spoon Rugby Yearbook in which 25 leading rugby writers and broadcasters each remember what was special for them in one of those 25 years.

Sir Ian McGeechan remembers the successful Lions tour of South Africa in 1997 and Sir Clive Woodward, not surprisingly, shares his memories of England’s World Cup glory in 2003. Others remember a year for less obvious reasons – John Inverdale has special memories of the year that Italy beat France and Ireland in Rome and finished above both of them in the final table. There are memories of Grand Slams for Wales and Ireland and European Cup successes for Bath and Leicester as well as Premiership successes for Sale in 2006 and for Saracens in 2011. Among the contributors are Ian Robertson’s former BBC colleagues Eddie Butler, Alastair Hignell, Miles Harrison, Alastair Eykyn, Andrew Cotter and Chris Jones.

2021 marks the appearance of the 25th edition of the Wooden Spoon Rugby World which began its life in 1997 when what had for eight years been the Whitbread Rugby World transformed itself into a major fundraiser for the rapidly growing Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby.  Editor Ian Robertson has been an active supporter of Wooden Spoon since it was founded in 1983 and throughout the last 25 years has spoken at or hosted numerous Wooden Spoon dinners and the events in support of the book. Wooden Spoon Rugby World has become an established and eagerly awaited annual publication and one of the few sporting yearbooks to have survived in recent years.

With a foreword by HRH Princess Royal, the glossy hardback edition is out now priced at £25.
